ABOUT POOL AND SPA COMPLIANCE:

What is a pool compliance inspection?

A pool compliance inspection is a thorough assessment of a pool or spa barrier by a registered practitioner, to ensure it meets the safety standards set by the Victorian Government. AquaFence Pool Compliance is registered to undertake your inspection.

Is a compliance inspection mandatory for all pools and spas?

Yes, as of 1st December 2019, it is mandatory for all property owners in Victoria to have their pool or spa barrier inspected if the pool or spa has the capability of holding more than 300mm (30cm) of water. This includes both permanent and temporary pools and spas.

How often do I need to have my pool compliance inspected?

In Victoria, pools and spas must be inspected every four years.

What are the consequences of non-compliance?

Non-compliance can result in significant fines. If repairable issues are discovered during the first inspection, time will be given to rectify. If, however, repairs are not undertaken or serious faults are uncovered that pose an immediate risk to life, a notice of non compliance will be lodged with the responsible council for their action.

What are the requirements for a compliant pool barrier?

A compliant barrier must meet specific height, strength, and structural requirements, assessed against relevant Australian Standards. It will include self-closing and self-latching gates, with no climbable objects near the barrier.

Do I need a permit for my pool or spa barrier?

Yes. In Victoria, you need a permit for your pool or spa barrier. It's advisable to check with your local council.

Are inflatable or temporary pools exempt from compliance requirements?

No, any inflatable or temporary pool or spa that is capable of holding more than 300mm (30cm) of water is not exempt. They must also meet compliance standards.

What if my pool or spa barrier is found non-compliant during an inspection?

If your barrier is found non-compliant, you will be provided with a written report outlining the issues that need to be addressed. You will then have a specified period to rectify the problems.
